Friday 7th September 2012 First Stepping in Ireland The Charles Fort Kinsale

The Charles Fort is described as one of the finest surviving examples of a 17th Century Star Fort i.e. star-shaped!  Much of this fort, which was begun in 1678, remains with two large bastions overlooking Kinsale harbour and three looking inland.  The illustration is from the local tourist guide pamphlet since it gives a better idea of the star shape of the fortress.
