This will be my 5th & 6th crossing of the Atlantic this year – two by sea in the MV Balmoral for my Around South America cruise from January to April of this year and two by air in July for my Grand Alaska and Rocky Mountaineer adventures. This cruise departs Southampton on Wednesday 5th September and once again the ship is the MV Balmoral – the flagship vessel of the Fred Olsen Cruise Line's fleet. I shall not however be travelling alone this time since my 91 year young Step Mother – Peggy – is joining me on her maiden Atlantic crossing!
The cruise covers the iconic Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Quebec City and St Lawrence River and Newfoundland and Labrador. I loved Halifax and Peggy's Cove when I visited last year on my QMII cruise. Sadly I think the terrain at Peggy's Cove will be too much for Peg to visit. Hopefully the tress will be in full autumnal glory although the temperature in Quebec and Montreal are still in the top 20s but it is two weeks before we are in this part of the world so plenty of time for the weather to change.
Our itinerary takes us via Cobh (Pronounced Cove I am told) across the Atlantic to Halifax Nova Scotia. After Halifax our course will take us North to Sydney, Charlottes Town, Port Saguenay – where I hope some Whale Watching will be available – and then on down the St Lawrence River to Quebec, Trois Rivieres, Montreal and then back via Baie-Commenau, Havre St.Pierre, Gaspe and finally St. Johns Newfoundland.
